Tell us about yourself: who you are, where you're from, etc.

I run small software development business in my native state of Texas. I also teach some high school in my spare time.

What does being a "Centrist" mean to you, and why did you get involved?

In the current state of politics, I think the center is the only place you can end up if you are willing to put reason, logic, and facts ahead of party loyalty.

I consider myself conservative and I was reasonably at home in the Republican party at one time. Over the past several years the Republican party, particularly in my state, has headed down a path I cannot follow.

This has led me to consider supporting candidates from the Democratic Party simply as a way to check the worst policies of the Republicans, but this is not a sustainable strategy since I ultimately do not think many of their policies are best for the country.

I believe in the 2-party system and that the best policies come through the bipartisan debate and compromise that system is meant to facilitate. However, that system has ceased to function as the current environment of ultra-polarization has gummed up the works.

What is a policy issue you are passionate about and why?

Nothing has me more worried about the future of our republic than the rise of white nationalism and populism.
