When Charlie ran for Congress in 2009, he said that one day he would write a manifesto for how to restore sane, pragmatic policy making to Washington – the kind of principles he espoused during his campaign. Fast forward to 2014: Charlie published The Centrist Manifesto which spawned a national organization, The Centrist Project (www.centristproject.org).
The Centrist Project is about political innovation. Both major parties have made promises to their most extreme members that are incompatible with solving our biggest challenges – like entitlement spending, the dangerous debt, K-12 education and climate change. The Centrist Project has a plan to change things: Charlie’s big idea is that by electing 5 moderate, centrist Senators, we can tip the balance of power into the hands of a pragmatic coalition who will get Washington working again. We’re supporting moderate candidates who align with our principles, regardless of party. We’re building a powerful base of centrist, moderate voters and donors across the country to help these candidates succeed.
If you think that what we are trying to do makes sense – or you share our view that gridlock is not good governance – or you just want to have a pint and chat politics with a bunch of fellow wonks – then we hope you will join us!
Hope you can make it!
Pam Peak, Acting Executive Director, The Centrist Project
PS: Later this week, The Centrist Project will make a major announcement, in what we hope is a groundbreaking step toward helping elect and support moderate, pragmatic candidates. Join us to learn more! Preview: it’s a really cool way to put our public policy theory into action.
