I am a retired computer industry executive living in Pennsylvania.
I am thoroughly disgusted with all three leading political parties, Republican, Democratic, and Libertarian. Plus, we've got to break the current duopoly party system. As a registered Independent in PA, I am denied the right to vote in the primary.
I am currently trying to get the straight party choice removed from the PA ballot. Once successful, I will start a campaign to get Ranked Choice Voting approved, as it was in Maine.
I wish I knew. There are too many vested interests "playing politics" rather than thinking about and doing what's best for the country.
Never having been politically active, I was inspired to action by Nick Troiano when he ran for US Representative for district PA-10. I knew our area was strongly Republican, but in that election, when Governor Tom Corbett was summarily thrown from office, Corbett still carried all but two precincts in PA-10. In the election of 2016, I noticed that the straight party choice is the very first thing on the ballot, and started digging. By actual count, 30% of the voters in Sullivan County, PA, selected the straight party choice. I have to wonder how we can encourage an informed electorate if voters do not even have to look at the names of the candidates for whom they are voting.
