I am a proud Minnesotan who, like many, is disturbed by the current state of politics and media. I'm a proud mom of two kids, a happy wife getting ready for empty-nesting, and a big fan of winter. I work for a public charter school network, KIPP Minnesota, that provides college-prep education for students from low-income neighborhoods.
I had the good fortune of going to college with Charlie Wheelan (and his even-more-talented wife) so read The Centrist Manifesto when it came out. Post election, I've been stewing about finding an action to offset some of the angst. I finally decided that a modest monthly contribution is a great way to start. Thanks for your good ideas, high ideals, and hard work -- this feels like a great investment to me.
Strong public schools that close opportunity gaps are my passion. As a supporter of educational equity, I've supported candidates in both parties, but am invariably disappointed when intelligent candidates give speeches or send fundraising letters that are full of ridiculous claims. I want to support candidates who don't throw red meat to their party hardliners, but have the courage and courtesy to address the issues, consider compromises, and propose solutions.
Our country isn't served well by people who simplify complex issues and demonize those who have opposing views. I'm proud to join others who are supporting this worthy cause! The Centrist Project has a well-thought approach and targeted strategy. I've admired it from inception, but realized that I need to be more vocal and invested. If we can make a difference, 2018 is our year! Things aren't (hopefully) going to get more zany than they are now, so I'm hopeful that some Independent sanity in Governor roles, Senate seats, and Colorado leaders will prove what is possible in politics!
