National Political Director

The Centrist Project seeks a full-time National Political Director.  The National Political Director is responsible for leading all of the organization’s candidate-focused programs and maintaining relationships with all candidates, state partners, and key vendors.

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial political operative capable of utilizing past experience to envision, build and scale a new way for candidates to run for office and help turn the energy of the independent movement into electoral success.

The National Political Director will primarily be tasked with scaling the Centrist Project’s operations into the 2020 election cycle –– including expanding an “independent election engine” of candidate resources,   establishing new state partnerships, and overseeing candidate recruitment up and down the ballot.

The National Political Director will be based in Denver, Colorado and report to the Executive Director. This is a full-time role with full benefits and a starting salary of $60,000. Additional pay will be commensurate with experience.  


  • Support state partnerships and candidate programs in Colorado, Maine and Washington

  • Lead organizational growth strategy, including prioritization of future state partnerships

  • Manage key organizational programs including candidate recruitment, training and support

  • Assess the alignment, character, and viability of independent candidates and make recommendations about endorsements and resource allocations

  • Create and deploy tools, resources and services for independent candidates

  • Facilitate a community of independent leaders running for office at all levels of government


  • A strong desire to fix a broken political system and passion for our cause

  • At least four years of professional and political work experience

  • Previous experience managing team members and budgets

  • Track record of conceiving, building, and scaling effective programs

  • Experience designing, drafting and analyzing political surveys  

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and execute at a high level

  • High standard of professionalism and personal integrity

  • Ability to be responsive to time-sensitive communications outside of normal work hours

  • Willingness to travel regularly
