Tell us about yourself: who you are, where you're from, etc.

I am a locally-elected official from Omaha, Nebraska. I worked for a moderate U.S. Senator for six years and saw first hand the highs and lows of politics and public service. I am also an Army Reservist and Development Consultant where I get to travel the country helping religious organizations and non-profits raise funds through capital campaigns.

What does being a "Centrist" mean to you, and why did you get involved?

Being a Centrist means valuing honesty, integrity, peer-reviewed research, intelligence and sense of duty and service more than political positions. I'm getting involved because I have gotten tired and discouraged waiting for our current leadership and political class to rediscover these values in themselves.

What is a policy issue you are passionate about and why?

I would like to think I was pro-environment and anti-pollution before I even knew or heard of climate change. To me it goes back to knowing pollution is not good for our health and nature's health. I'm all about coming up with solutions within reasonable and set budgets and taxes. Sustainability, in environment and fiscal policy is needed. I'm also a big believer that the more we do to build and assist a large, healthy middle-class, the better our communities and country will be.

How do you think we can unite our country and fix our politics?

First, by listening to everyone. Political leaders in a democracy must try to represent the whole. Then by trying ideas, new and old, to solve problems and not being afraid to change course if it appears our solutions are not working out as planned. And we can't be afraid to compromise to try to assuage the worries of different interests.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I'm positive we can turn the tide to the center. These things come and go in waves, but it doesn't come back without work and effort. We can't sit and wait.
